It occurred to me I really need pencil pouches for my Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes, but alas, my budget is mostly tapped out! What to do?
It occurred to me that I had seen some plasticky pouches at Dollar Tree that were made from the same material as reusable shopping bags, so I figured I’d try it myself. This is the first one I’ve made. I think these will work well!
I’ve seen folks online post about how to make a pencil pouch from cloth, but I’m no good at following patterns so in this case, I just did what seemed to make sense. I sewed the two panels for the front and back of the pouch to the zipper first, then I opened the zipper before turning right sides together and sewing around sides and bottom of pouch. I turned everything right side outwards and then put a few stitches down the side where the zipper opening was just told it in place. And voila! A cute, upcycled pencil pouch.
I was also able to make some other types of pouches from an old Trader Joe’s shopping bag.
